Overview

Experience one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular trekking adventures in the Bale Mountains National Park. This 7-day trek takes you through Afro-alpine landscapes, vast moorlands, dramatic escarpments, and pristine valleys. Along the way, encounter unique wildlife such as the Ethiopian wolf, mountain nyala, and giant molerat, while enjoying breathtaking scenery, fresh mountain air, and authentic cultural interactions. Ideal for nature lovers, hikers, and adventure travelers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience.

Day 01.  Arrival to Bale Mountains
Take a drive to Bale Mountains, on arrival to the park headquarters in time for a leisurely afternoon hike, possibly spotting two endemic mammals that frequently seen to the area:  Menelik’s Bushbuck and the Mountain Nyala.  Birds in this area include the Blue-Winged Goose, the Spot-Breasted Lapwing, the Abyssinian Long Claw, Wattled Ibis, the Black-Headed Siskin, Rouget’s Rail, and numerous other species. 2hrs walk.
Overnight Camping. 3000masl.

Day 02. Trekking to Adelay:- On this day you will be starting the hike from Dinsho in to the woodland part of the national park. You will have a chance to spot endemic birds and mamals of Ethiopia. Admire the stunning nature beauty of the Bale Mountains. 5-6 hrs walk 18 km. Overnight camping. 3,400masl.

Day 03. Trekking to Sodota:- Start hiking from Adelay and enter the national park. while trekking through the park there will be a chance to see the rarest canid Ethiopian Wolf, Rock Hyrax, Giant Mole rat and most of birds of prey. stop by Habera waterfall for a nice break then heading to Sodota campsite for Overnight 3,500masl. 6-7 hrs walk  20km.

Day 04. Trekking to wasema:- Trek to Wasema through a beautiful landscape with stunning views.  Pass through Mararo Valley where the Lammergeyer and Verraux Eagles keep nests. There will also be a chance a seeing the Ethiopian Wolf and other species of birds. 5-6 hrs walk 18 km.
Overnight Camping 3,900masl.

Day 05. Trekking to Rafu:- Today you will be walking through a beautiful landscape. Near Rafu you will enjoy panoramic view of Rafu Rock pillars which are caused by volcanic lava flow. 5-6 hrs walk 18 km.
Overnight Camping 4,000masl.

Day 06. Trekking to Sanneti:- Morning after breakfast start the hike and pass through the Second highest point of Ethiopia Called Tullu Deemtu (4377 masl)  which will be windy as it covers the all weather of Africa because of its Elevation over 4000 m asl chance to see the Starcks Hare, Endemic Gaint molerat and water birds etc. at the end meet the vehicle and drive back to Goba Town for Overnight.

Day 07.   Drive Back to Addis. 

Return to Addis through the Great Rift Valley, enroot lunch stop at Ziway Lake. Farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant featuring dancers and musicians representing some of the country’s many ethnic groups. Then transfer to Airport.
