
Explore one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular wilderness areas on this 6 day Bale Mountains trekking adventure. Hike through Afro-alpine moorlands, the Sanetti Plateau and scenic valleys while spotting endemic wildlife such as the Ethiopian wolf, mountain nyala, Bale monkey and rare bird species. The journey combines multi-day trekking with camping, a visit to the lush Harenna Forest and rich natural landscapes, offering an authentic experience of Ethiopia’s highland ecosystems and biodiversity.
Day 1: Flight to Bale Mountains – Dinsho
Upon arrival at Goba Airport, you will be met by our team and driven to Dinsho town, home to the Bale Mountains National Park headquarters. Begin your hike around the park HQ, where you may encounter endemic and endangered mammals such as Menelik’s bushbuck, mountain nyala, warthog, reedbuck, gray duiker, and baboons.
The juniper woodlands around Dinsho are also home to Ethiopian endemic birds including black-headed siskin, wattled ibis, and Abyssinian catbird. Overnight: Dinsho Campsite. Altitude: 3,100 m a.s.l.
Day 2: Trek Dinsho – Sodota Campsite
After breakfast, begin the trek to Sodota, covering approximately 18 km. Walk through the spectacular scenery of Web Valley toward Fincha Habera Waterfall, where the Web and Wolla rivers meet. This area offers your first opportunity to spot the endemic Ethiopian wolf, as well as raptors, rock hyrax, and endemic birds such as the blue-winged goose. On arrival at the campsite, enjoy a relaxing coffee or tea break. Overnight: Sodota Campsite

Day 3: Trek Sodota – Wasema
Trek to Wasema through beautiful landscapes and stunning mountain views. Pass through Mararo Valley, where lammergeyers and Verreaux’s eagles nest. There is also a good chance of seeing the Ethiopian wolf and a wide variety of birdlife. Trekking time: Approximately 6–7 hours. Overnight: Wasema Campsite
Altitude: About 3,900 m a.s.l.
Day 4: Trek to Sanetti Plateau
Start the day trekking through Wasema and descending into Worgona Valley. Watch for falcons, raptors, and possibly the Ethiopian wolf. Continue through the most beautiful Afro-alpine moorlands, featuring wild alpine scenery and high-altitude lakes on the Sanetti Plateau. Trekking time: Approximately 7–8 hours. Overnight: Sanetti Campsite. Altitude: 4,100 m a.s.l.
Day 5: Drive to Harenna Forest
After breakfast, meet the vehicle at the campsite and drive toward the lush Harenna Forest, Ethiopia’s second tropical rainforest. Along the way, you may spot rare and endangered species such as the Ethiopian wolf, Abyssinian hare, and water birds including blue-winged goose, ruddy shelduck, and wattled crane. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walk through the forest, visiting a waterfall and bamboo trails. The endemic Bale monkey can be seen here, along with numerous bird species. Overnight: Wabe Shabale Hotel or similar
Day 6: Transfer to Airport – Flight to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
