Experience the cultural heart of Southern Ethiopia on this immersive 4-day journey through the Omo Valley. Discover ancient traditions, unique tribal lifestyles, and remarkable landscapes as you visit the Dorze, Konso, Hamer, Dassenech, Ari, and Mursi communities. This tour combines authentic cultural encounters with scenic drives and domestic flights for a rich and efficient exploration of Ethiopia’s most diverse region.

DAY 01: Fly to Arba Minch – Visit the Dorze Tribe

Take a morning flight to Arba Minch, located in southern Ethiopia, a region renowned for its extraordinary cultural diversity and ethnic richness. Upon arrival, meet your driver and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a short drive to the Guge Mountains to visit the Dorze Tribe. The Dorze are famous for their exceptional cotton weaving techniques and their impressive beehive-shaped houses, constructed entirely from organic materials.

During your visit, explore the Dorze village, observe traditional weaving methods, see the iconic huts and learn about their daily life, social structure and cultural traditions. Overnight: Arba Minch Tourist Hotel

DAY 02: Arba Minch – Konso – Turmi (Hamer Tribe Visit)

After breakfast, drive south toward Turmi, the cultural hub of the lower Omo Valley. En route, stop at Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to visit one of the fortified Konso villages. The Konso people are renowned for their advanced agricultural terracing system and for their carved wooden totems (waka) erected in honor of the deceased. The villages are enclosed by impressive stone walls and divided into family compounds.

After lunch, continue your journey through scenic acacia woodlands toward Turmi. In the afternoon, visit a nearby village of the Hamer Tribe, well known for their elaborate hairstyles, fine pottery and vibrant cultural identity. Hamer women are easily recognized by their colorful beaded goat skin garments, ornate necklaces and metal bangles, which traditionally symbolize the wealth and status of their husbands. Overnight: Turmi  Emerald Lodge

DAY 03: Turmi – Omorate (Dassenech Tribe) – Jinka (Ari People)

In the morning, travel on a paved road (approximately 75 km) to Omorate, located on the banks of the Omo River, near the Kenyan border. Cross the river by local boat and walk to a village of the Dassenech Tribe, a semi-nomadic community living along the riverbanks. The Dassenech are known for their distinctive and elaborate hair buns, as well as their livelihood based on farming and fishing. Their clans extend across Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Sudan.

After the visit, return to Turmi and continue the drive to Jinka. Before reaching town, stop to visit the Ari People, who inhabit the lush highlands around Jinka. The Ari are primarily farmers, growing coffee, fruits and enset for both trade and household use. Their green villages, surrounded by banana, mango and avocado trees, are considered among the most scenic in southern Ethiopia. Overnight: Jinka Nasa Hotel

DAY 04: Mursi Tribe Visit – Fly Back to Addis Ababa

Early in the morning, drive through Mago National Park to visit a village of the Mursi Tribe, one of the most iconic and well-known ethnic groups in the Omo Valley. The Mursi are famous for their women who traditionally wear clay or wooden lip plates and for the men’s ceremonial stick-fighting ritual known as Donga. They are among the last communities in Africa where this cultural practice remains widely observed.

After the visit, return to Jinka and transfer to Jinka Bako Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Arrival in Addis is expected in the afternoon, marking the end of the tour.
